Inspired by a longing for the flavors of yesteryears and a yearning to reconnect with our roots, Kappa Chakka Kandhari was born. Chef Regi Mathew and friends set sail on a remarkable three-year journey through the Kerala culinary landscape. The mission? To bridge the gap between modernity and tradition, bringing back the essence of wholesome, childhood memories through flavorful Kerala cuisine.
Throughout our expedition, we ventured into the heart of Kerala’s culinary traditions, exploring its rich tapestry of flavors influenced by Malabar, toddy shop delights, Syrian Christian, Travancore, and Mappila cuisines. Joined by families over mother-cooked lunches, we shared stories and savored age-old recipes passed down through generations. Our relentless pursuit of tradition led us to uncover hidden gems, sourcing the finest ingredients from local farms, self-help groups, and passionate home chefs.
Rooted in an emotional longing for the simple, hearty dishes of our childhood, we traversed Kerala, dining at over 265 homes and 70 toddy shops. Here, we tasted and collected an overwhelming 800 recipes, mastering unusual techniques along the way. Our curated menu reflects this diverse journey, preserving the regional tastes and flavors of Kerala. ‘Kappa Chakka Kandhari’ responsibly introduces lesser-known yet equally delectable staples to the world.

By sourcing hyper-locally, we ensure the freshest and most genuine flavors in every bite, a commitment that has resonated with over 12,000 diners who grace our tables in Chennai every month.
